Trip-report 9- 30 May 2010.

I knew that local elections were being held in the Dominican Republic, but apparently the exam period for schools had been shifted from June to May and very few people knew this well in advance. From Thursday to Tuesday, the school buildings were being used for the elections, banks were closed, ATM cash dispensers were empty, shops closed, and an alcohol prohibition applied in cafés and restaurants.
However, everything went off quietly and afterwards there were parades of cars honking loudly with lots of music and enthusiastic people waving flags.
The schools could not be visited during the last week because of the exams.

Trip-report September/October 2009.

It is starting to become rather routine already; Casa Marina Reefs Hotel in Sosúa as an operating base for three weeks. I am received almost as a VIP there now, with several privileges.

Trip-report January/February 2009

Mother Nature did not cooperate this time.

My last visit had been in May 2008, and I travelled to Sosúa again on 24 January 2009, staying for 2 ½ weeks at the Casa Marina Reef hotel. Many Dominicans and non-Dominicans were sick or had symptoms of flu. I was also unable to escape this entirely.

Trip-report 11-29 May 2008

Eight months after September 2007, I was back in Sosúa again and this time for two and a half weeks. I stayed in the Casa Marina Reef hotel, a three-star resort, which is very comfortable. I was closely observed, not only in the street by Dominicans again, but also in the hotel, by staff and tourists. A woman alone, keeping herself so busy, that is strange.
